Back in 2017, I decided to fly out to Los Angeles for my birthday. At the time, my friend lived there and another friend also flew in the same weekend. One of the many highlights of the trip was the Malibu Wine Hike (this hike was a random find from Pinterest). The views were breathtaking while driving to the site in Malibu (my friend who drove there was not impressed by the windy and hilly roads).
When we arrived, we checked in at the Malibu Wine Hikes trailer pictured at the top of this post. That day, the skies were clear and the temperature was perfect for an easy hike. Over a ~2.5 hour period, we hiked ~2 miles through the Vineyards of Saddlerock Ranch. Along the way we saw the luscious vineyard landscapes and we also passed by a few of the animals (like horses, llamas, and zebras) on the property. Of course several pictures were snapped along the way. The most scenic area for pictures was the large yellow frame that showcased the Santa Monica mountains in the background.

Following our hike, we were transported to the wine tasting area. It was quite busy because there were other hikers that were in our group going to the wine tasting as well as a wedding reception happening. We were given a list of 5-6 wines to choose from. From that list we could taste 3 of them. I believe that I tasted the Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon and ended up buying a bottle of the Cab Sauv. It was an enjoyable moment to sit back after the hike and drink wine with my friends (they’re the best)!

If you are in the Los Angeles area and have time to venture over to Malibu, I would definitely recommend booking this hike! Be sure to bring a water bottle, to wear proper hiking attire (no sandals or heels), and to dress for warm weather.
P.S., the company also offers a safari wine tour. Instead of hiking, you ride in a cool safari Jeep about the property. Of course the wine tasting is also included.

If you liked the wind home you’ll love the beer walks when you get back to Germany!
