5 Best Things to Do in Blue Ridge, GA

Blue Ridge, GA is a charming small mountain town in North Georgia. Every trip I’ve taken there has been relaxing and refreshing, with stunning mountain views, outdoor activities, and a walkable downtown area. The area has several local shops, restaurants, breweries, and wineries. Here are my top 5 recommendations for things to do if you’re ever planning a trip to Blue Ridge, GA:

1. Ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

One of the most popular attractions in the area is the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. This train takes you on a 26-mile journey that follows the Toccoa River. I went during the fall of 2023 and took the 4-hour fall foliage tour, which included a 2-hour layover in the sister towns of McCaysville, GA, and Copperhill, TN (when you arrive there, these two towns are within walking distance). Although I expected more mountain views during the route, it was still an enjoyable experience with picturesque views!

📍 Tip: Book your train tickets in advance (Check availability here) because they sell out fast, especially during peak season! Note that the train does not run during February!

2. Visit Mercier Orchards

Mercier Orchards is a family-owned apple orchard that’s been around for over 80 years. Mercier offers more than just apple picking and tasting! There are also baked goods (ex: apple cider donuts), a country store that sells things like jams and kitchenware, and a bar that offers hard cider drinks (including flights)! Even if you’re not a huge fan of apples, I recommend visiting for the experience!

3. Rent a Cabin with Mountain Views

While you may not get the best mountain views from downtown Blue Ridge, renting a cabin to bask in the views is my top recommendation! Whether you want a romantic getaway or a cozy retreat with friends, there are several options on multiple sites, such as Airbnb, Vrbo, and booking.com, ranging from affordable to super fancy cabins.

📍 Tip: Book early if you visit in fall or winter, as cabins fill up quickly!

4. Stroll Downtown & Visit a Local Winery or Brewery

Downtown Blue Ridge has a charming small-town feel with boutique shops, art galleries, and great restaurants. While exploring, stop by a local winery or brewery for a relaxing drink. The area is walkable, and one of my favorite things to do while there is to essentially bar hop! I recommend Grumpy Old Men Brewing and Tipping Point Brewing Co.!

📍 Tip: I’ve already mentioned this, but if you don’t want to plan where you’d like to visit, start on one end of the strip downtown and walk until you find something that catches your eye! You’d be surprised at what you find!

5. Take a Scenic Hike

Blue Ridge has several beautiful hiking trails that lead to stunning waterfalls and mountain overlooks. Click here to check out some of the best hikes in the area.

Blue Ridge, GA is the perfect escape for solo or group travels! Like a day at the beach, it’s a great spot to relax and unwind. Whether riding the Scenic Railway, tasting apples at Mercier Orchards, or sipping wine with a view, this town has plenty to offer! Cheers to move north Georgia adventures!
